Welcome, and thank you for visiting!
Voting has now concluded in the 2024 Australian Institute of Health & Safety Board of Director Elections.
I want to say thanks for those in my network who have reached out in support, provided encouragement and endorsement as part of my nomination campaign. It's been a great experience putting myself forward for consideration.
I also want to thank all the AIHS financial members who got involved in this democratic process, and actively engaged with the candidate statements from all nominees. I have got to say, the calibre of nominees for this year are next level, so regardless of the outcome, I am confident the Institute is in strong, capable and safe hands (and will complement the current Board well).
What a great professional community to be a part of! I'm looking forward to seeing (and being a part of) the AIHS continuing to go from strength to strength, with the leadership of the Board, Julia Whitford and the Institute staff.

My name is Tim Allred, and I am a dedicated safety professional with 17 years of experience in promoting workplace health, safety, and wellbeing.
My journey began with the guidance of influential lecturers during my chemistry studies, where I developed a deep respect for safety leadership and the power of reflective practice. Today, as I navigate new challenges and opportunities, my passion remains as strong as ever, driving innovation and collaboration across the industry.
This year, I’ve embraced the theme of being a Navigator—steering through complex landscapes and charting a clear course for the future of safety leadership. Just as a navigator guides others, I believe in empowering people to authentically lead safety—giving them the tools, knowledge, and confidence to make safety leadership a core part of their everyday work.
With experience across multiple sectors—from Healthcare to Higher Education, Manufacturing, and most recently as ANZ Zero Harm Manager - Water at Downer—I’ve had the privilege of leading teams that cultivate proactive cultures of safety. My work has always emphasised initiatives grounded in evidence-based decision-making and collaborative leadership, ensuring that safety is more than compliance; it’s about real, lasting impact.
As I transition into the role of Head of Zero Harm Centre of Excellence at Downer’s Energy & Utilities business, I’m more committed than ever to harnessing innovation, driving safety programs, and embedding evidence-based practices into our professional culture. The role of Navigator fits perfectly here—guiding teams through complex challenges and empowering others to take ownership of safety.
My focus is clear: building stronger, safer workplaces through leadership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
The AIHS has been instrumental in shaping my career, offering invaluable opportunities to collaborate with peers and contribute to the progress of our industry. I’ve observed the power of community and professional networks in propelling progress, from establishing the AIHS Emerging Leaders Network to becoming a Fellow. Reflective practice, which was central to my doctoral studies, has been a vital tool in improving safety outcomes and organisational performance, and it’s something I want to champion within our professional community.
If elected to the AIHS Board of Directors, I will bring my passion for evidence-based safety leadership, lifelong learning, and building connections to help guide the Institute forward. As your Navigator, I aim to chart a course for innovation, collaboration, and reflective practice, ensuring that our profession remains impactful, relevant, and prepared for the future. Most importantly, I want to empower all of us to authentically lead safety—because when everyone is equipped to lead, we create safer, healthier workplaces for all.
Yours in Safety,
Tim
